07 May 2019, by Prasuk

Tori or ridge gourd is a vegetable which is considered to be a boring, bland vegetable but it is actually extremely healthy and nourishing.

Here are some of the healthy reasons, to love your Tori.

Nutrient content:

Tori contains Vitamin A, B6, C, Iron, Calcium, dietary fiber, potassium, manganese, copper and zinc.

Weight loss:

Tori has a high water and fibre content and is thus low in calories; Making it an essential  ingredient in any weight loss diet.

Diabetes:

Tori is hypoglycaemic, contains antioxidants and is low in calories. This makes it the ideal vegetable to control blood sugar and diabetes.

Cooling for the summer:

It is a summer vegetable because of its cooling properties. Ayurveda recommends it for reducing pitta or heat in the body. It is highly alkaline in nature and excellent for Urinary issues

Skin and Hair:

Tori also helps in reducing skin infections as it aids blood purification and rids the body of impurities. Tori also helps in preventing premature graying and hair fall.

BEAUTY TIP:

Dry the Tori and mix in coconut oil. Apply once a week on your hair. Keep for 30 minutes to 1 hour and then shampoo.
