Musk Melons to the rescue!

07 May 2019, by Prasuk

The summer heat and dryness makes our digestive system weak so we should eat foods that we can digest easily. Fruits have natural hydration and are easy to digest. One of the best examples is Musk Melons.

Cantaloupe, Honeydew and Galia are all varieties of Musk melons and are available in abundance in the summer months. Sweet and juicy, they are both delicious and healthy.

Here’s why you need to fill up on Musk melons this summer:

Nutritional Content:

Musk melons are laden with minerals and antioxidants including Vitamin A, B6, C and D. They also contain magnesium, choline, iron, calcium, cobalamin, beta carotene and flavonoids such as lutein, zeaxanthin and crytotaxanthin. They are also very low in calories; 34 per 100 grams.

Protection against Cancer:

Being rich in flavonoids and antioxidants, Musk melons have the ability to help protect cells from oxygen-free radicals and protect against colon, prostate, breast, endometrial, lung and pancreatic cancers.

Easy to digest:

Musk melons are high in both fibre and moisture, so help in preventing constipation, promote regularity and maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Reduce Inflammation:

Choline in Musk melons aid the body in sleep, muscle movement, learning and memory.

Choline also assists in absorption of fat, and reduces chronic inflammation.

Good for Eyes:

Due to the high content of beta carotene and Vitamin A, Musk melons are good for the eye, reducing the risk of cataracts and also preventing macular degeneration.

Reduces blood pressure:

Due to the high potassium content, they regulate blood pressure and keep hypertension at bay.

Immunity builders:

Musk melons are extremely rich in Vitamin C and strengthen the immune system. They stimulate and increase the white blood cells and help destroy viruses and bacteria. They also prevent premature ageing of cells and strengthen immunity.

Clean Kidneys:

Musk melons contain oxykine which is beneficial for kidney issues and stones. They cleanse the kidneys due to their high water content.

Great for Hair and skin:

The Vitamin A in Musk melons encourages skin regeneration and the Vitamin C helps in forming collagen, the connective tissue that gives your skin a super glow. Certain Musk melons, like Cantaloupes, contain a form of Vitamin B which can prevent hair loss and promote hair growth.

Note:

Exercise portion control when you eat musk melons. They are oozing with sweetness so if you overdose on them you may miss out on other nutrients like healthy fats and proteins.

Our bodies need all the nutrients to sustain us and be healthy.
